Podcast episode: Overshoot Day

In Switzerland, we actually need almost three planets for our lifestyle. What this means on an economic, agricultural and personal level is explained by Mathis Wackernagel and Anita Frehner in an interview with FiBL Focus editor Franziska Hämmerli.

This year, Overshoot Day falls on 13 May for Switzerland. This means that between 1 January and this date, humanity would have already consumed more than the Earth can renew in the entire year - if everyone lived the way we do in Switzerland.

Nutrition also contributes significantly to the early overshoot, which underlines the relevance of the research work in the 'Deliberative Diets' project. In an FiBL Focus podcast episode, the inventor of the ecological footprint, Mathis Wackernagel, and FiBL researcher in the Deliberative Diets project, Anita Frehner, explain why Overshoot Day should not depress us, but help us to make better decisions.
