Food system and agro-ecosystem valuation

In this part of the project, we apply methods for determining the value of agro-ecosystems and their services (AES), e.g. pollination regulation, food provisioning, and cultural identity. This valuation will be based on monetary and non-monetary techniques. First, the team reviews existing studies on AES valuation. Their approaches and results will be used to determine the potential for developing valuation methods further. The generated information supports the sustainability assessment and food system modelling. Two case studies will then apply those methods to Swiss food supply chains. The first study focuses on the production of cocoa in Ecuador and nuts/oil in Spain. The second targets Swiss consumers. Finally, the case studies' results will contribute to an "integrated valuation" of Swiss food system scenarios.
